Golden Eagle

18 Castle Street, Chester

Constructed in 79 AD, Chester was the Roman fortress of Deva and was the largest of the three military fortresses in Britain. The Golden Eagle is on the direct line the Romans would have marched from the fortress to the River Dee. Staff and visitors have seen a patrol of Roman soldiers marching through the cellar wall, across the cellar and out through the other wall.
