The Combermere Arms
Burleydam, Whitchurch, Shropshire
The hostelry has a lot of intriguing history, with ghost stories. Two men of the cloth, for example, were accounted for to have trapped a troublesome apparition by catching it in a bottle. The vessel was later buried underneath the doorstep. On another event, a photo taken in 1891 appeared to uncover the figure of a man which was supposedly the phantom of Lord Combermere, who kicked the bucket that year.
