The Bleeding Wolf
121 Congleton Road North, Scholar Green, Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
Once upon a time, there was a forester called Lawton. He saved the life of King John. He prevented a wolf from killing John. As a reward, the king offered Lawton all the land he could walk over in one week, starting at the wolf’s body. Lawton covered a large area. He then built an inn on the spot where he had killed the wolf. Now, on the other hand it records that the last wolf in Cheshire expired in 1746. The pub haunted by a large canine style animal for years. Commentators have heard it baying in the night. There have been infrequent glimpses of it in the grounds.
